DVLA CHIEF EXECUTIVE ON THE BRINK?

DVLA CHIEF EXECUTIVE ON THE BRINK?
THE PUBLIC'S PATIENCE HAS RUN OUT - IN A RECENT POLL, A MASSIVE 90% VOTED FOR NOEL SHANAHAN TO BE SACKED
THIS BLOG IS IN THE INTERESTS OF THE GREAT BRITISH MOTORING PUBLIC WHO DESERVE BETTER SERVICE.

DRIVER AND VEHICLE LICENSING AGENCY

The DVLA appears to be a badly run organisation.

Ian Broom is Customer Services Manager and Noel Shanahan is Chief Executive.

Unfortunately, if you do encounter a problem, neither Mr Shanahan nor Mr Broom will be available to address your concerns.

Surely it is now time these pair of clowns were put to task over the running of this incompetent organisation.

The staff at their call centre in Swansea haven't a clue what they are doing or saying. I have been given bad information, causing me to be out of pocket by some £100. I have been passed around from one clueless department to another without anyone being able to address my concerns and I am sick to the back teeth of it.

So I now feel it necessary to name and shame the people responsible for this mess - Noel Shanahan and Ian Broom.

I do not feel either of them have - or will ever have - the necessary skills required to be capable of managing in such a high profile organisation. I feel it is now time these two were replaced and the department overhalled - with proper staff training administered.

DVLA BREAK ROAD TRAFFIC LAW IN PRESTON

A Lancashire Evening Post reader spotted a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency operator parked up on the pavement on New Hall Lane, Preston, to zap car tax dodgers.

The worried reader said: "There is not enough room to get past this vehicle with a double baby buggy without either walking onto the grass or walking into the road.

"Pavements are for people, prams and dogs. They aren't constructed to take the weight of vehicles – roads are, that's where vehicles and horses should be."

The DVLA is subject to the same Highway Code regulations as any other vehicle and a spokesman admitted the operator was in the wrong.

He said: "I can only apologise on behalf of the Agency if on this occasion the operators in question transgressed the rules.

"This has been brought to the attention of the crew concerned and I can assure you that such an occurrence will not happen again.

"Sites from which our ANPR vehicles operate are risk assessed in advance to ensure that we do not hinder traffic flow or cause an obstruction to road users or pedestrians.

"It would appear that on this occasion procedures were not adhered to."

Aidan Turner-Bishop of the Lancashire Campaign for Better Transport said: "If they are parking on the pavement they stop people walking with pushchairs and stop wheelchairs – they are being thoughtless."

Preston Coun Veronica Afrin, who represents St Matthew's ward, said: "I would say it is irresponsible, particularly because the city council is very keen people don't clog up pavements.

Clause 244 of the Highway Code states drivers should not park on pavements unless signs permit it.

Unable to tax car - advice needed

Jon writes:

"I recently bought a car with 3 month tax left on it. The previous seller did post the V5 off to the DVLA (I saw him do it so I know he's not lying ).

Then the weekend before last I suddenly noticed my tax was due for renewal at the end of Feb. I'd had no reminders so I called DVLA and they had no record of me owning the car - they'd never received the V5 apparantly.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt, as post does get lost. So I sent off at their request the small slip from the V5 that shows I'm the owner, my original insurance certificate and payment for 6 months tax. I sent it via recorded delivery and it arrived with the local office last Tuesday, 1 week ago.

I've been calling up every day since Friday asking for status and it seems they've lost it. First they tried to say they never received it, so I gave them the proof of delivery reference. Now they say they're sure it's 'here somewhere' and will call me back once they have it. However it's me chasing them and I never have an update!

Couple of Questions:
1. Is the 14 day 'grace' period true or a myth? Can I drive my car?
2. What do I do if the DVLA have lost my letter. Not only do I not have tax, but I don't have my insurance certificate or slip from V5 so how can I prove I ever bought the car?

Any advice would be appreciated as I'm due to travel with business on Thursday and Friday. It'll be most annoying - and expensive! If I have to get trains everywhere."

Conniff replies:-

"It is a myth, but in your case, you have them on the back foot. If you should get a 'not displaying' ticket, they will have to wipe it out.

Probably as high as 99% of all claims that people haven't sent SORN requests etc; are a total fabrication, just lies to criminally extract money from the public.

I think I would send them another letter, recorded of course, giving them 5 days to send you a tax disc and return the other bits."

How Long for DVLA to Return a Log Book?

MJK 24 asks:

"How long will it take the DVLA to return a log book after you've changed the engine number and cylinder capacity?

Cheers"

Jamer replies:

"up to 7 weeks sometimes and they may decide to view your car at th local DVLA office if they want to.

If your unsure ring DVLA Swansea and they will tell you where it is in the system, every time we have rung wondering where they have got to on say a Thursday they miraculously turn up the next week"

Ecosnige responds:

"Well ive just waited 3 months for a log book to come"

Iguana writes:

"Im at 5 months at the mo, despite the wtf is my v5 letters sent etc."

DVLA IN IDENTITY FRAUD LOOPHOLE INVESTIGATION?

Hawkeye8 writes:

"My BF passed his bike test and everything was sent to the DVLA by the test centre. We waited for months then phoned the DVLA and they said they have no recognition that he even passed or applied so we had to get his test centre to confirm to DVLA and when we received it, it had the wrong pass date!!

I received a new bike which had to be put in BF name. When log book came in i changed details but i made a mistake on it and i signed it, sent it without my BF signature so they go ahead take my BF off the log book, don't put me on as the new registered owner bet tell me to pay £25 but they admit they done wrong by not sending it back to get it corrected, they took it for granted even the registered owner did not sign. So what this means is that anyone can change details on a log book without the owners signature, no wonder there is so much identity fraud.

I am going to write a letter again to tell them to get their finger out and sort it out."

DVLA PROBLEMS - MR INGLISTER

Mr Inglister writes:-

"Hi there. Just to let you know that Ive sent lots of documents to the DVLA and they have been lost. I'm still waiting on a registration document! I have sent off for in the past my paper driving license with all the forms/photo.to which was lost in the post!!!!!
And this has happened to me enough."

How many more people will suffer at the hands of the DVLA before this government take some form of action. We are now living in a society where even the most honest of us are being branded criminals. The courts must wake up, plus Noel Shanahan and Ian Broom must go immediately.

MORE BAD SERVICE FROM DVLA - MAIL NOT RECEIVED?

Bad Buffy who is another disgruntled driver writes:-

"I hear you, I moved house 3 months ago and still have not recieved my log book or the one for my wifes car. You try to phone them and you get that stupid automated 'press 1 for....press 2 for...' and you can't get anywhere. They are just out to rob us blind. In future I will be sending everything to them recorded delivery, I suggest you and anyone else does the same."

Surely it is now time the Department of Transport and courts wake up to the fact that this department is failing badly and changes at the top are urgently needed.

MORE DIABOLICAL SERVICE FROM DVLA SWANSEA

More horror stories to pile the pressure on beleaguered DVLA bosses Noel Shanahan and Ian Broom:

This post is from Yahoo and seems to be recurring theme across the internet.

Is anyone having problems with the DVLA not receiving documents?
They have recently not received a cheque I sent, then sent me a fine because they say they haven't had my log book, which I know I sent.

My friend has had the same thing happen also. It seems to me they are "not receiving" a lot of stuff, which is unfair on us as we are paying the cost. Or do they have a certain quota of fines to dish out. I have no proof of postage so I don't have a leg to stand on.. not happy
